Copyright and fair use are a huge deal and only continue to become bigger as you move further and further on throughout your education. I have seen tons of kids get in trouble for plagiarizing and turning in work that is not theirs, especially with the growth and takeover of AI and ChatGPT. I plan to teach kindergarten, so I do not anticipate having problems with plagiarism, unoriginal work, copyright, or fair use. I do anticipate having issues with parents doing children's homework for them. To prevent this from happening, all the "homework" I give, which will be nearly nothing because of their age, will be on paper and personal so that I will be able to tell if the kids did it themselves. If I taught older grades, I would give children a warning in private first before going to suspension or expulsion because my teaching philosophy prioritizes correcting and helping children over reprimanding them.
In my future classroom, I do fear that decreased productivity will be an issue because of how screen-oriented children are now. Going from their houses where they watch shows and videos while they eat and probably to distract them while their parents are busy or working to a 7-hour school day where there is lots of socialization, I cannot even blame the kids. To fix this issue, I plan on having tons of fun group activities throughout my school days and implementing a little bit of technology for lessons or group work instead of relying solely on technology and educational videos.
To reflect on my newsletter assignment, I was a little bit of a mess. As I have written previously, I am not the best at Microsoft Word and have only used Google Docs in the past, so this assignment took me over 5 hours. I was not satisfied with it and did not turn it in correctly because I ran out of time, overestimating my previous knowledge of technology. I learned my lesson, though, and have been working to figure out how to fix all the issues that I had so that I do not encounter them again. This is a great tool to use because, as a parent, I would love to get a newsletter updating me on the events going on in my kids classroom, especially one with cute graphics and themes! I definitely want to implement this into my teaching career, so I am going to keep practicing.
